Episode 17:
Animated Analysis:
Cars 2
In this episode, Stephan and Nootrac cover what is considered the first bad Pixar film. But is it bad or just misunderstood? Or maybe it’s neither? Or maybe– ah screw it, just watch the damn video.

Comment: This movie proved me wrong about spy movies always automatically being awesome. I'll admit you were right, the spy stuff was the best part of the movie, but the plot was kinda cliched. I actually expected this movie to make up for the disappointment of the first "Cars". It didn't.

Comment: Funny you mention about the african american car being black, because me 3 year old brother asked the something. I wasn't sure what to tell him. Also, why does he have a gap in his tooth?

Comment: i'm with nootrac, it's a good movie. sure, it's the " worst " movie that PIXAR made, but it's not the worst movie i've ever seen. i like the development in mater, he new characters are interesting in themselves, and the plot was decent. i say go watch it, but only to those who like squeals, fans of cars, and people that like spy movies.

Comment: Well, I feel stupid. I just realized that Nootrac's name is "cartoon" spelled backwards. I honestly never noticed the spelling before.
As for Cars 2...It is the worst of the Pixar movies, but it's not really a horrible film on it's own. I have seen far worse ones, and Pixar's overall track record is pretty much spotless, so they can afford to have one franchise that is mediocre. Yeah, the Cars franchise isn't even bad, it's just average. I don't regret seeing Cars 2 in theaters, but I am glad I didn't buy the DVD or may full price at the theater.

Comment: This feels a lot like North By Northwest with Larry the Cable Guy, it even uses elements from The Ipcress File, The Conversation, True Lies and suprisingly Austin Powers. I feel bad for Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer, they act like they badly need a paycheck. What really kills it and its predecessor is the merchandising, sure the other Pixar films have merchandise but they didn't focus on selling stuff back then. On Rotten Tomatoes their "Certified Fresh" streak has been broken thanks to a rating of 37%. At least I know that Brave will be great once it hits teatures.

Comment: 3 of the cast memebers of the first Cars died. George Carlin who voiced Filmore died of a heart failure in 2008, Oscar winner Paul Newman who voiced Hudson died of lung cancer in 2008 and Joe Ranft who voiced Red was killed in a car accident in 2005.

Comment: The MPAA is frickin messed up. They give The Hunchback of Notre Dame a G rating and they give TANGLED a PG rating!!!

Comment: To be honest, I actually enjoyed "Cars 2" more so than its predecessor. True, I think "Cars" was good, but boy was it slow. I thought the message to children in this film is more like "Just be yourself" than what you made it out to be. You still give good points about the various flaws some people may not even notice. To me, all of the Pixar films were really good. Even some weaker ones had something good about them. All in all, "Cars 2" isn't as good as other Pixar movies, such as the brilliant "Toy Story 3", but it's still a pretty fun, action-packed and entertaining sequel. That's my two cents.

Comment: Personally, I liked this movie (ducks flying shoe). Sure, it was nowhere near as good as most of Pixar's other movies, but I still liked it, mostly because I love Mater and liked seeing him get his turn in the spotlight. Great review, Stephan!

Comment: 1; John Lasseter grew up helping out his dad who was a Chevy Car dealer back when he was a kid. That's why he has a thing for Cars. 2;The Incredibles and Up were rated PG but yeah, it's weird how they rated THIS G. 3; Nice Animation on Nootrac, keep up the good work!
