Comment: Hm, I've never seen this movie shockingly enough, but it seems pretty interesting, though others have said otherwise. I won't be able to make any judgments until I see it. Great review nonetheless.

Comment: Has anyone noticed the song used on the Disney's 1985 theme is a short instrumental version of when you wish upon a star? it was extended back in 2006 when enchanted came out!

Comment: Ahhh... I LOVE THAT LOGO...
Rankin Bass Gandalf... yet another movie that gets a lot of flack, but doesn't really deserve it (I'm talking about Rankin Bass's Return of the King)
You know, despite some truly weird stuff about hobbits and humans, the film has good music, and really out of all 3 LOTR adapatations it best captures the FEEL of the actual books. It doesn't move too fast, includes scenes fairly verbatim from the book, and aside from a few silly animation choices, like Gollum looking like a frog... I give credit where it is due. Right down to the songs, actually, it just FEELS more like Tolkien even than the all touted Peter Jackson films... which just have a little too much of a Hollywood Horror film edge to them when it comes to being true to Tolkien.
Anyway... The Black Cauldron... simply doesn't deserve the scorn it receives... true it's probably too scary for little kids, but there are lots of "kid's movies" that I still find too scary to this day... and I'm an adult... albeit most creepy looking monsters... I have a VERY active imagination... so horror films are completely off the table for me... anyway... I don't find The Black Cauldron inordinately scary for say... kids over 7...
So what if Gurgi is basically Gollum... he has his differences, for one thing; Gurgi actually reforms... Gollum destroys the ring accidentally... or so we think... maybe he did do it on purpose? Subconsciously? Anyway... I don't mind the similarity... the rest of the film is different enough.
I can't help but feel that "The Gummi Bears" was Disney's idea of a kind of spin-off show to this movie... mostly b/c even though this movie doesn't have... well... Gummi Bears it does have several characters that seem familar... Tarren and Cavin are quite similar, as are Eilonwy and Calla. Also, Creeper and Toady share a personality and are both small and green... also, few Disney movies are set in this semi-medieval/fantasy time period... and that's the setting for "The Gummi Bears" as well. Maybe they were trying out a more kid friendly version of something in the medieval fantasy realm, after the dismal failure of this underrated flick?
Disney "Princess" doesn't actually mean Disney Princess... what about Mulan?! She's not a princess!!! She's the wife of a general! Also... what about Princess Tiger Lily, Princess Calla, Princess Kida (of Atlantis), all of Ariel's sisters, the 3 Princesses from that Mulan Sequel... you get the point...
I too have a deep dislike for the Bakshi LOTR... mostly b/c they turned Sam into a retard, and INSULT SAM GAMGEE IN FRONT OF ME AND YOU'RE ON MY NO LIKE LIST FOREVER!!! (I'm looking at you, Juno...)
I watched "Wizards" as well, and it was okay... I don't know... Bakshi movies just aren't my cup of tea... I far prefer Rankin Bass... THEY ROCK!!!

Comment: Okay, this is the first review episode that's part of this site that I've ever seen in my life. And I enjoyed it. As for the Black Cauldron, yeah, I've never seen this movie before I watch this review, but thanks to a fanart on deviantart, I just had to watch this movie. As a result, I actually enjoyed it. And it wasn't scary to me for some reason. Uh, almost. Still, it is a good movie.

Comment: I honestly don't see why this movie bombed at the box office. I mean, sure, it wasn't what the public expected from a Disney movie, but it looked pretty good (I've never actually seen this movie, but now I'm going to try and find a copy of it to watch.)

Comment: To Filmbuff:Do think they would show stuff like that in pg-13 film if they make director's cut?

Comment: Mostly stuff on the Cauldron Born (there is a bit in the trailer you can see on YouTube where three close-ups of skeletons are seen, a man is slashed at the torso, one guy is dissolved by a mist, and some other bits), a scene where they try to save Ellyonwe and she looks almost partily nude becuase of the fabric, a longer version of the pixes under the pond they find, some footage of Tarin vanquishing his enemies with the swoard, and that's all I know.

Comment: Depending on how it turns out, I heavily doubt we will see an extended version of this underrated cult classic. As for the question of the deleted material, I don't know what they will place on it, but they might not place the violent scenes on there. If they do, it will be a bold move for them. However, I did hear on the UltimateDisney forums that there was a 10 minute version of the fairy sequence that got chopped down will be used. But as for the "holg grail" material, we can only hope. If they do a "director's cut," it would probably be PG-13. However, it could still mandle it PG rating. Look at Harry Potter. They managed to get away with a lot of violent material that could have pushed a PG-13.
