Comment: I love this movie, but looking back at it now,I can see the one flaw in it.
The way they deliver the message is pretty awesome, but let's not forget this:The message of the story is cliched.
"Pollution and destroying nature must be stopped" has been done before, and it's getting old.
The way this movie delivers that message is cool, but yeah, the moral is still unoriginal.
My only favorite and memorable characters was Batty and Hexxus. The others,I never really cared about.Coincidentally, their songs were my favorites as well.
I suppose the one thing that makes this movie great is nostalgia value(Did I really just say that?KILL ME!)
Yeah.I can see the number one flaw in this film,I still love.I'd give 4 stars out of 5,but your review was good.Unlike someone else's...*coughNOSTALGIACRITICcough*

Comment: To me, the characters were too flat and the movie overall way too preachy. It causes me headache from all the anvils dropped on me. The story itself is blown up with unnecessary scenes to somehow fill the movie length. And the songs - not bad, but not memorable either... It's not a bad movie, but a very medicore one.

Comment: I LOVE this movie! I'm all for animal rights, helping animals, and
saving the enviroment. This movie really speaks to me. My absolute
favorite character is Batty Koda! I love his rap, and I'm a person who hates all other rap so that's saying something. His rap was a great
song to listen to , for the sound and the message. I've heard the full version and honestly I think it should have been kept in the movie. I disagree FULLY with Nostalgia critic and Nostalgia chick.
They gave bad reviews to 3 of my favorite movie, and an iffy review to the sequel. The sequel is good on stand-alone basis, but is
aweful as a sequel to this masterpiece of a movie.

Comment: Y'know, this is kind of a touching review.
Plus, it gives you options. If you HATED the movie, you could see the one by The Nostalgia Chick and Critic (Who, if you ask me, know NOTHING about reviews. Nickelodeon Month PROVES this), but, if you thought the movie was pretty good, you should see THIS review.
Well done, Hewy!

Comment: You want to know what even weirder when they made the un need sequel which had tons of problems. Including the male fairy from the first movie being the main characters instead of crystal. They actually had the nerve to bring back the lizard from the first movie but as more essential characters and toned down more kid friendly. He was the most vulgar character in the original next to hexus. What were they thinking that would have been like if they had used the alligator character in all dogs 2 and the christmas carol movie. People would have complained like crazy. But ferngully 2 gets away with doing that wtf.

Comment: I never saw this until I was a little older... I saw "Once Upon a Forest" at age four and it scared the hell out of me!
I just wish James Cameron hadn't painted CGI all over it and made a bundle doing so... I think I actually prefer "Ferngully" to "Ferngully in Space" AKA "Avatar"...
I don't really know why so many people slam this movie... yeah... parts of it are stupid, but overall I give it a B...
Recycling is good, but what we really need is to just consume less. There are too many humans and we use up too many resources too quickly. The key word is REDUCE... then supplement reuse and recycle... what we need to do is change our philosophy towards nature. I think this movie got that kinda right, actually... I give it points for that.
One thing I think we could do is stop using the term "Natural Disaster" there is no such thing... certain things like Hurricanes or Floods are only a "disaster" from our point of view. That's not to say we shouldn't try to protect ourselves from being harmed by such occurances, but the terminology... MY GOODNESS!!! We're not in a war against nature... although, I think some people are... and they need help... it's like calling your mother a (insert expletive here)
We need to care more about other species, and frankly, about ourselves, b/c if we really cared about the future of human beings we'd take the time to understand that it's not in our best interests to keep going like we are... eventually we'll run out... anybody up for extinction? Ignoring a problem will just make it worse.
The best song in this movie is the last one, "Some Other World."

Comment: All right! Fergully! One of my favorite childhood favorites. This movie is really cool and amazing and emotional. And don't forget evironmentalist. I have liked it for about 12 or 11 years.
Now, about 11 years ago, I have rented the sequel to this movie. It was okay to me. Although I haven't seen it in a long time. Oh well.
And this is one of the cool animated movies 20th Century Fox has produced. Better than the Pagemaster.

Comment: This movie is pretty cool. My favorite character is totally Batty<3! But being completely honest here, I still think global warming is nothing but media hype.

Comment: I won't lie. I never cared for this film at all. I saw this in theaters and I can't say it left much of an impression on me. I barely even remember much of it, up until the Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chick had posted their own review of it. To be honest, it's pretty mediocre. Not god-awful, but nothing special. One thing I hate about it: some of the songs are just crap. The Hexxus song is alright, but eveything else is just crap, particularly the Batty Rap and that lizard song sung by Tone Loc. WHAT WAS THE POINT IN THAT?! And to be honest, I couldn't care for much about Hexxus' pollution air-like substance. I actually like his skeletal form at the end. It's alot more frightening and badass. Overall, I've seen worse animated films. I give it 3 stars. It has a good moral, but it's just hard to fathom with a film like this. I know we have to protect the environment, but sometimes the media needs to grasp out interest in a smart way.

Comment: Thank God, someone else who actually has good memories of FernGully! Everyone else seems to hate this movie, but I loved it as a kid. I always thought Robin Williams was hilarious as Batty (but not as hilarious as he was in Aladdin as the Genie!)

Comment: i know you mention recycling like its the greatest thing ever but more often than not it can cause more pollution to recycle things then making them in the first place, things like paper and plastics have lots of toxic residue waist produced in the process of re-refinement. sure tin recycles well but most other things don't and are just government feelgood make-work. As always people overlook that its more important to reduce and reuse first.

Comment: Finally, someone on teh interwebs who doesn't believe recycling is foolish, and that global warming is a hoax! But I don't like overly-preachy movies, and I think Ferngully borders on that. However, Robin Williams as Batty is actually pretty good, and Tim Curry as Hexxus is great! I could just imagine the Sweet Transvestite from Rocky Horror Picture Show as Hexxus, particularly when he refers to the smoke as "just like mother's milk". Now that's creepy! And the original version of the Batty Rap was very obscene. Just look up Batty Rap original version in YouTube.
